The mystery woman at the heart of the Julian Edelman groping scandal is a “class act” and a graduate student who doesn’t follow football and had no clue who the Patriots [team stats] wide receiver was when he allegedly assaulted her during a Back Bay club’s Halloween blowout, her lawyer tells the Herald.
In fact, attorney Timothy Bradl said tonight, it wasn’t until “well after” Boston police became involved that his client and her boyfriend learned Edelman was a pro football player.
“She had no interaction with (Edelman). She doesn’t know (Edelman). She wasn’t dancing with (Edelman). She in no way enticed or ever spoke with him,” Bradl said. “This is not about the Patriots.
“She does not want publicity. She is not seeking any monetary gain,” he said. “She’s a class act, but I am not going to let her be vilified in the media.”
Edelman’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
Bradl said the woman, who claims Edelman, 25, while dressed as one of the slick and slimey cops from the Comedy Central mockumentary “Reno 911!” reached under her costume while both were on the dance floor and grabbed her vagina, was at a private party for a medical school with her boyfriend.
He refused to say if the woman is a graduate student at the medical school or what character she was dressed as.
Hours after the dust-up, Edelman pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Boston Municipal Court to indecent assault and battery and was ordered to stay away from both the upscale hotspot Storyville and the alleged victim.
The Patriots have refused to discuss the incident.
Bradl said his client is “fully cooperating with Boston police and the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.”
He would not say whether he has been shown the club’s surveillance footage from the dance floor, or whether his client will consider not pursuing the charges. “We want the legal process to take its course,” he said.
Asked why she needs a lawyer, Bradl said, “Who would want to deal with the misogynist Neanderthals who are talking about her when you could have lawyer do it? She wants to move on with her life.”
